Plover Day with Audubon New York

Enjoy this fun-filled event dedicated to raising awareness about the beloved Piping Plovers and other beach nesting shorebirds.

10:00am – 11:30am Plover Patrol Recommended Ages 7 and older- Go on a 1.5 mile hike along the beach with knowledgeable guides and learn all about these fascinating birds and their habitats. Some binoculars provided, you are also welcome to bring your own.

11:30am-12:30 pm | Sharing the Shore with Beach Nesting Birds with Audubon New York- Each year shorebirds and seabirds travel to Long Island to nest along its beaches and islands. Learn about the six nesting shorebird and seabird species of the beaches, the threats they face during their nesting season and how guest can help in the conservation efforts to protect them.

1:30pm – 2:30pm | Plover Craft- Create a sign to help educate people about nesting shorebirds! There will be markers, crayons, and more to decorate with. You’ll get to bring your craft home to show all of your plover pals.
